What to Expect at Your Appointment

What will we discuss at your special needs planning appointment?  Before your special needs planning appointment, our office will send or email you forms to fill out.  The background information that you provide will make your appointment more productive and efficient. 

During the appointment, the attorney may discuss the following topics with you:

• Information about the individual with the disability, including the nature of the disability, the legal competency of the individual, and the types of government benefits the individual is currently receiving or expects to receive,
• How various benefits interact with each other,
• The income and resource requirements for needs-based government benefits,
• Whether or not a trust is a viable option and, if so, which type(s) of trust(s) are available,
• Alternatives to a special needs trust,
• The amount and source of funds that will be used to fund the trust, and
• The individual’s or the family’s existing estate plans.

At the conclusion of the meeting, you may wish to retain our firm to develop a customized plan for you or your family.
